ADA COMPLIANCE UNIT (ADACU):

The ADACU was developed as a result of Armstrong v. Davis Court Injunction.

The mission of the Board of Prison Terms (BPT) Americans with Disabilities Act Compliance Unit (ADACU) is to ensure compliance with the ADA of 1990, the Rehab Act of 1973, and any other state and federal laws relating to ADA and due process.

In 1999, a permanent injunction ordered the BPT to evaluate all of the facilities in which parole proceedings are conducted, to determine their compliance with the ADA. The injunction also ensures that the BPT programs are conducted so as not to discriminate against people with disabilities.

The BPT set several goals and objectives to meet the terms of the injunctions, and to facilitate an interactive, and fair and consistent due process for prisoners with disabilities.
